Renewal

A new site design, a chance to take stock

Renewal

Welcome to my site, and my new design. Still working some bugs out, but it should already be easier to see my work.

It's forced me to "take stock" in two senses: to catalogue and count, and to assess the situation. The former leading to the latter. I'm using cataloguing software to create a database for my life's work. This means trying to chase down photos of work, dimensions, dates, where my paintings are, who owns them and when did they sell? I've been making work professionally since 1987. That's a lot to sort through! Lloyd McNeill advised me to always date my work, even sketches, and I am grateful for that.

Of course, this work necessarily leads to the second sense; to evaluation and assessment of the work, and ones career. Some conclusions?

I've been more prolific than I thought: Hundreds of figure drawings, and several portfolios of watercolors; A couple of hundred oil paintings; a dozen or so Scagliola works. All while running a mural business before starting and a non-profit community arts center. Throw in a some indy film work and it's not a bad career...so far.

Which is where I am now, starting the next chapter. Posting my watercolors and oils from another trip west, cradling the panels for support, preparing new panels for the plein air season, and looking forward to teaching.
