For over 35,000 years, starting with the cave paintings in central Europe, man has attempted to adorn his surroundings with art. These first "artists" used simple colored earth smudged and spattered onto uneven cave walls.

Later with more refined techniques, like fresco and
scagliola , artists were transforming palaces and cathederals. And in the modern age, oil and acrylics became the media of choice, to enliven the interiors of our public and private spaces.

For over 15 years James Gloria has been using plaster, paint and canvas to bring life to the contemporary living space in the classic tradition. This website is a portfolio of the best of his work.  From
faux finishes to murals, fresco to scagliola , there is something for every home.  In addition,  he has been asked to transform many public spaces, from restaurants to historic homes and museums.  If you would like to see his work in person, send an email, or call for directions.

If your interest goes beyond commissioning work, and you would like to learn the techniques,  James offers private classes to individuals and small groups in his studio in north east Pennsylvania, an hour and a half drive from New York.  Visit the
classes page for a listing of course dates.
